Be Cyber Smart and Keep Your Children Cyber Safe
Are your tweens and/or teens either gaming, posting on social media or chatting online without supervision? As a follow up to our previous article Transitioning Youth into Independence - Helpful Resources for Families. Peel Regional Police would like to provide families with some more tools to help your children become responsible and independent while alone and online.
On the Peel Regional Police Child and Teen Safety web page you will find tips regarding online safety as well as bullying and cyberbullying. There is more information about these topics and other online concerns on the Peel Regional Police Cyber Crime, Computer and Internet Safety web page as well. We encourage families to review these resources and watch the Peel Regional Police video How Do I Stay Safe on Social Media together.
For educators, there is further cyber proofing information provided to grade 5 students at the Peel Regional Police Youth Cyber Safety Academy. This course, which is held at the Peel Children’s safety Village in Brampton, is a fun way for educators to support parents in their efforts to safeguard their children. Any educators interested in the program can book a session between November and June through the Peel Children's Safety Village. There is no cost for the program. The school will be responsible for the cost of the bus only.
Being safe online is just as important as being safe on the streets.
