Auxiliary 30th Anniversary

We are celebrating 30 years of the Peel Regional Police Auxiliary Program being active in our community. It was formed in 1989 with 24 Auxiliary Officers, today it consists of 110 highly trained volunteers who represent the diverse cultural backgrounds, careers and age of the residents in the Region of Peel.

We have a wide variety of teams within the Auxiliary Bureau that include: Marine Unit, Honour Guard, Recruiting Team, Crime Prevention Team, Peer Support Team, Training Team, Citizenship court team, Fitness Team and Equity and Inclusion team.  Their support role helps to assist our police officers by attending special community fundraising events as Cram-a-Cruiser, RIDE programs, patrol escorts and emergency callouts.

Every volunteer works hard to be apart of this program by first meeting the criteria to be accepted into this program which is similar to that expected of our constables. Following acceptance there is a four month training period of 160 hours for volunteer recruits. The longest serving member is Auxiliary Constable David Hamlyn who was hired in 1989.

A number of our Auxiliary members inspire to become Police Officers.  In 2018 we had 9 hired as Constables, 3 hired as Cadets and 1 hired as a Special Constable.

“I am very proud of the commitment that our Auxiliary members show to this organization and our community.  Last year (2018) our Auxiliary officers volunteered 23,831 hours!” said Sergeant Derrick St. Denis, the Officer in Charge of the Auxiliary Bureau.

Today we recognize our Auxiliary Officers and celebrate 30 years of excellence.  We are proud of each and every one of them.
