Arrests Made in Human Trafficking Investigation (3)

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau – Vice and Human Trafficking Unit, in collaboration with the Hamilton Police Human Trafficking Unit, have arrested and charged a Mississauga man following a human trafficking investigation involving a minor.

The investigation was launched after police identified a victim engaged in the sex trade within the Region of Peel. Through the course of the investigation, it is alleged that the accused exploited the victim, provided her with accomodations, and exercised control over her activities.

On July 27, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at the accused’s residence in Mississauga. As a result, Gabriel Bonev, 23, was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences, including:

  • Trafficking in Persons Under 18
  • Exercising Control
  • Communicating for the Purpose of Obtaining Sexual Services
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Choking or Strangulation
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death
  • Procuring a Person Under 18
  • Sexual Interference
  • Two counts of Failing to Comply with an Undertaking
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

Mr. Bonev was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area, and are encouraging them to contact police at 905-453-2121, extension 3555.
