Arrest Made in Stolen Auto Investigation

 

 

 

Region of Peel – Peel Regional Police have made an arrest in a stolen auto investigation that occurred in Brampton.

On Thursday Dec.18, 2025 a vehicle was reported stolen from a car dealership in the area of Kennedy Road and Queen Street East. On Saturday, Dec. 20, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers on patrol observed the stolen vehicle being driven near Queen Street West and McMurchy Avenue South.

Officers were able to follow the vehicle to a nearby parking lot where the driver exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.  With the assistance of the Aerial Support Unit and Canine Unit the driver was located hiding beside a residence.

Julius Layug, a 34-year-old male of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order
  • Possession of Automobile Master Key
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

Further investigation revealed that Layug is a prohibited driver due to seven separate Criminal Code driving prohibition orders.  As a result, he was also charged with Operation While Prohibited x7.

Layug was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
