Arrest Made in Forcible Confinement Investigation

Region of Peel – Peel Regional Police have arrested a Brampton man in relation to a Forcible Confinement investigation involving a female victim who is not known to him.

On Monday, Dec. 8, the accused, posing as a ride share driver picked the victim up from the Trinity Common mall in Brampton in his vehicle, a grey 2008 Nissan Altima.

The accused proceeded to drive away with the victim at which time the victim realized the accused was not in fact her ride share driver.  The victim asked the accused to stop and let her exit the vehicle at which time it is alleged the accused forcibly confined the victim.

On Dec. 9, 70-year-old Goutam Banerjee was arrested and charged with Forcible Confinement.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims.
