Arrest Made Following Child Abuse Investigation

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Special Victims Unit have charged a Mississauga teacher following an investigation into allegations of child abuse.

In May 2025, the Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into allegations involving a teacher employed by the Peel District School Board. It is alleged that, during the 2024–2025 academic year, the teacher physically moved four students into a room and forcibly confined them, preventing them from leaving. The incidents are reported to have occurred at a public school in the area of Atwater Avenue and Cawthra Road in Mississauga.

As a result of the investigation, 36-year-old David Szybalski was charged with the following offences:

  • Assault x4
  • Forcible Confinement x4

The accused was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

The Peel District School Board has confirmed the accused is currently suspended pending the outcome of the court process.

Given the nature of the incident and the vulnerability of those involved, investigators are concerned there may be additional victims. Anyone with information, or who believes they or someone they know may have been affected, is urged to contact police
