Arrest Made Following Amber Alert Abduction

Region of Peel – The 22 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) has arrested and charged a man in connection with an abduction that led to an Amber Alert in Brampton.

In the afternoon of Aug. 21, 2025, the victims, mother and son, were parked at a plaza near Main Street South and Charolais Boulevard. When the mother exited the vehicle, the child’s uncle, who was also in the vehicle, moved to the driver’s seat and, without consent or explanation, drove away with the child still inside.

Peel Regional Police immediately launched an investigation to locate the vehicle and the child, and an Amber Alert was subsequently issued at 6:04 p.m.

At 6:23 p.m., officers located the child abandoned in a parking lot near Resolution Drive and Rutherford Road. Fortunately, the child was unharmed.

Shortly after, police observed the suspect driving in the vicinity. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect rammed a police cruiser. Due to the dangerous manner of his driving, officers discontinued the pursuit.

At 2:19 a.m. on August 22, police located and arrested 30-year-old Shazaib Memon. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing and has been charged with the following criminal code offences:

  • Abduction of Person Under 14
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Abandoning a Child
  • Dangerous Operation Motor Vehicle
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
