Statistics

Every year Peel Regional Police reports its crime statistics to the Police Services Board and Regional Council by June of that year.

Below you will find a roll-up of the highlights from that report.

Homicides

Where one person causes the death of another, and includes:

  • 1st Degree Murder – planned and deliberate.
  • 2nd Degree Murder – not pre-planned.
  • Manslaughter – murder committed in the heat of passion caused by sudden provocation.
In 2016, Peel Region had 11 homicides, with a 63.6 percent solvency rate.In 2015, Peel Region had 16 homicides, with a 106.3 percent solvency rate.

Robbery

Any theft with violence.

In 2016, Peel Region reported 827 robberies, with a 40.4 percent solvency rate.

In 2015, Peel Region reported 678 robberies, with a 39.2 percent solvency rate.

Break and Enter

Occurs when a person breaks into a place that is not theirs, and commits or intends to commit a crime.

In 2016, Peel Region had 3,454 reports of break and enters, and 15.4 percent of them were solved.

In 2015, Peel Region had 3,630 reports of break and enters, and 16.6 percent of them were solved.

Sexual Violations

Any type of assault or violation that is sexual in nature.

In 2016, Peel Region had 716 sexual assaults reported, with a 68.4 percent solvency rate.

In 2015, Peel Region had 583 sexual assaults reported, with a 67.6 percent solvency rate.

Auto Theft

A person steals a vehicle, belonging to someone else.

In 2016, Peel Region had 2,007 vehicle thefts reported, with a 9.1 percent solvency rate.

In 2015, Peel Region had 1,861 vehicle thefts reported, with a 14.5 percent solvency rate.

Theft from Vehicle

A person steals property (valued over or under $5,000) from a vehicle that doesn't belong to them.

In 2016, Peel Region had 3,757 reports of theft from motor vehicles, with a 5.9 percent solvency rate.

In 2015, Peel Region had 3,554 reports of theft from motor vehicles, with an 11.7 percent solvency rate.

Mischief

Occurs when a person damages property that doesn't belong to them.

In 2016, Peel Region had 3,718 reports of mischief, with a 35.2 percent solvency rate.

In 2015, Peel Region had 3,534 reports of mischief, with a 31.1 percent solvency rate.

Impaired Driving

Occurs when a person drives a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs or alcohol.

In 2016, Peel Region had 1,260 impaired charges, with a 94.5 percent solvency rate.

In 2015, Peel Region had 1,386 impaired charges, with a 105.5 percent solvency rate.

Hate Motivated Crime

Hate or Bias towards a victim's race, nationality, ethnic original, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, or sexual orientation that motivates a person to commit a criminal offence against that person.

In 2017, Peel Region had 152 Hate Motivated Incidents.

In 2017, Peel Region had 158 Hate Motivated Crimes.

In 2016, Peel Region had 102 Hate Motivated Incidents.

In 2016, Peel Region had 59 Hate Motivated Crimes.

In 2015, Peel Region had 31 Hate Motivated Incidents.

In 2015, Peel Region had 63 Hate Motivated Crimes.

 

Hate Motivated Crime: a criminal act committed against a person or property.

Hate Motivated Incidents: are not criminal acts. For example, disrespectful/discriminatory or hostile speech.
