The Youth in Policing Initiative is an eight‑week summer job for students aged 15 to 18 in Peel Region. The program helps young people learn about policing, build life skills and connect with their community. Through our partnership with Sheridan College, students also learn on campus and take part in classroom sessions.

This program is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the Peel Police Services Board.

  • Learning sessions at Sheridan College led by college staff
  • Police drill, which builds teamwork, discipline and confidence

Cadet Organization Police School (COPS) Program

The COPS program gives young people ages 12–18 a fun, structured place to build leadership, teamwork and community service skills. Cadets also earn high school volunteer hours while becoming more confident and strong decision‑makers, all through meaningful work in their communities.

With all three branches – Sea, Army and Air – now represented, the COPS program is the only one of its kind in Canada.

The Canadian Cadet Organizations are federally funded and follow the structure and training style of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Junior Cadet Program is designed specifically for kids ages 10 to 12. It runs once a week during the school year and focuses on fun, active learning. It is separate from the Sea, Army and Air Cadet programs.

Junior Cadets take part in fitness activities and learn about all three cadet branches – Sea, Army, and Air – through hands‑on sessions and presentations led by Senior Cadets. They also get to attend special information nights with different Peel Emergency Services throughout the year.

Parents can apply for kids using our online application portal.
