Project Tail Light Update: Second Suspect Arrested in Auto Theft Investigation
Region of Peel – Investigators from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested the second man wanted in connection with Project Tail Light – an investigation into a series of vehicle thefts targeting residential parking garages in Mississauga.
In May 2026, investigators identified a series of vehicle thefts and attempted thefts occurring within the underground parking garages in the area of Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road East in Mississauga. Several vehicles were stolen, while others were damaged during attempted thefts.
As a result, Project Taillight was launched to identify those responsible and disrupt ongoing criminal activity. Through video surveillance analysis, Automated Licence Plate Recognition, Body-Worn Camera footage, and community outreach, two suspects were identified.
Search warrants were executed at residences in Mississauga and Erin, Ont. Investigators seized several cellular phones, key fobs and key‑programming devices, vehicle-related documents, and approximately $1,465 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
Previously announced as part of this investigation, Prince, a 21-year-old man from Mississauga, was arrested and charged on June 26 with 22 criminal offences. He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
On July 9, Gurjeet Singh Virk, a 23-year-old man from Erin, turned himself in to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was charged with the following offences:
- Breach of Release Order
- Theft of Motor Vehicle x7
- Possession of Break and Enter Instruments x5
- Theft Over $5000
- Theft Under $5000 x2
- Fraud Under $5000
Singh Virk was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
The investigation remains ongoing. Evidence seized during the search warrants continues to be analyzed, and investigators are pursuing additional leads to identify any other individuals involved.
