UPDATE: Suspect Arrested for Assaulting Officer, Fleeing Traffic Stop

Region of Peel – Officers assigned to the Compliance, Repeat Offenders, Warrants (C.R.O.W.) Team have arrested a suspect who was previously wanted in connection with an incident in which a police officer was assaulted, and the suspect fled a traffic stop.

On May 26, an officer investigated a vehicle for improper plates in a parking lot near Peel Centre Drive in Brampton. During the interaction, the suspect became uncooperative and attempted to flee on foot. The officer was assaulted while attempting to take him into custody. During the incident, the accused fled the scene in a vehicle, striking both the officer and their police cruiser. Fortunately, the officer suffered only minor injuries.

On June 11, the C.R.O.W. Team executed a warrant at a residence in Mississauga and arrested 41-year-old David Munoz of Brampton. He was held for a bail hearing and charged with the following offences:

·         Assault Peace Officer

·         Assault with Weapon

·         Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

·         Fail to Comply with a Release Order

·         Breach of probation
