Project NOMAD: Man Arrested in Connection with Residential Break & Enters Across Peel Region
Region of Peel – Investigators with the Break and Enter Auto and Retail (BEAR) Organized Crime Unit have arrested a man believed to be responsible for a series of break-and-enter offences across Peel Region.
On March 26, members from the 11 Division BEAR unit initiated an investigation, named Project NOMAD, in connection with a series of break and enters targeting residential homes. The accused would enter the homes during the evening hours and focused on stealing jewelry and currency from the upstairs bedrooms.
On April 23, members of the BEAR Unit, along with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), through investigation, were able to identify and locate the accused in a residence near Square One Shopping Centre in the city of Mississauga.
In addition, approximately $31,000 in currency was seized, along with approximately $36,000 worth of jewelry.
Gerard Barrett, a 39-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Break and enter and commit indictable offence X4
- Possession of property obtained by crime X4
- Disguise with intent
- Possession of break in instruments
Investigators were able to identify and return the recovered and seized property to the rightful owners.
