Project Bishop: Mississauga Man Faces 38 Charges Following Retail Theft Investigation
Region of Peel – Officers from 12 Division A Platoon have arrested and charged a Mississauga man following a multi-jurisdictional organized retail theft investigation.
In April, officers launched Project Bishop, an investigation targeting a prolific offender believed to be responsible for numerous thefts of clothing and accessories from major retailers across the Greater Toronto Area and other parts of Ontario.
Over the course of the two-month investigation, officers linked the suspect to at least 38 theft-related incidents across Peel, Halton, Durham, Hamilton, York, and Niagara regions. The value of merchandise stolen in each incident ranged from approximately $50 to more than $4,000.
On June 19, Anthony Orlando Monteith, a 49-year-old man from Mississauga was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing. He was charged with the following criminal offences:
- Theft Under $5,000 X24
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime X14
Following the arrest, search warrants were executed at residences in Mississauga and Welland, where officers recovered more than $35,000 worth of stolen merchandise, including clothing, cosmetics, and personal accessories.
Officers continue to investigate offences where Monteith may be a suspect and anticipate further charges.
Looking ahead, Peel Police will host the Retail Organized Crime Conference in October, bringing together law enforcement agencies, retail sector partners, and government partners to advance collaboration and develop a unified approach to disrupting organized retail crime that impacts our communities.
