THIS is How We Do It

Investing in People. Strengthening Public Safety.

This month, Peel Regional Police celebrated an important milestone: our first-ever Dispatcher Graduation Ceremony.

On October 7, we recognized 21 fully qualified 9-1-1 communicators who successfully completed 18 months of intensive training. These graduates join a team that serves as the critical link between the public and frontline officers.

Our 9-1-1 communicators are often called the first of first responders. They are the calm voice on the other end of the line, gathering information, coordinating resources and helping people through what is often the most difficult moment of their lives.

The 21 graduates bring a broad range of professional, educational and lived experiences to the Service. Collectively, they speak five languages, helping us better connect with and support Peel's diverse communities.

Supporting with modern technology

Investing in people is only part of the story.

Peel Regional Police has also invested in modernizing and expanding its communications technology. These improvements provide communicators with enhanced tools that support decision-making, improve situational awareness and help coordinate responses during critical incidents.

In July 2026, Peel Regional Police introduced an artificial intelligence tool to support non-emergency call handling and assist 9-1-1 communicators. By helping people access information faster through non-emergency channels, this technology allows emergency resources to remain focused on urgent calls that require immediate attention.

Technology will never replace the expertise, judgment and compassion of our communications professionals, but it can help them work more effectively and efficiently.

Delivering results for the community

The investments made in both our people and technology are delivering measurable results.

Today, Peel Regional Police answers 9-1-1 calls in an average of approximately eight seconds, representing an 85 per cent reduction in call answer times since 2022.

For residents, that means faster access to help during emergencies. For our members, it means better tools and support to do their jobs safely and effectively. And for the community, it means a stronger, more responsive public safety system.

As we celebrate the achievements of our newest 9-1-1 communicators, we are also recognizing the value of continued investment in the people and technology that keep our communities safe. Every investment in our communications services is an investment in faster responses, stronger service and safer communities for everyone.
