Arrest Made in Large-Scale Break-In Spree Involving 71 Vehicles in Mississauga
Region of Peel – Investigators with the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested and charged a man following an extensive investigation into 71 vehicle break-ins across Mississauga.
The incidents occurred during the early morning hours of Sept. 3 and Sept. 6, and targeted neighbourhoods throughout Mississauga. During these occurrences, investigators allege the suspect unlawfully entered vehicles, either by smashing windows or taking advantage of unlocked doors and stole valuables.
While no vehicles were stolen and all vehicles were unoccupied at the time, the incidents resulted in significant property damage and financial losses for residents.
As a result of these investigative efforts, Cory Lowden, 34, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:
• Attempt to Commit an Indictable Offence x 46
• Theft Under $5,000 x 16
• Mischief Over $5,000 x 15
• Theft Over $5,000
Lowden was also arrested for two outstanding warrants related to separate fraud investigations. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Detectives have also identified potential connections to similar vehicle crime investigations being conducted in Halton Region, Toronto, York Region and Waterloo Region. Investigators continue to work closely with policing partners across the Greater Toronto Area to determine the full scope of the accused's alleged activities.
