Arrest Made in Fatal Hit and Run in Mississauga

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau (MCB) have arrested and charged a man following a fatal hit-and-run collision in Mississauga that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, just before 6 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

Sadly, the victim, a man in his 60s, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Investigators quickly identified the suspect vehicle as a dark, two-toned Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck, model year 1999 to 2005.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, investigators arrested and charged 69-year-old Aubrey Lawrence of Hamilton with Fail to Remain at Accident Resulting in Death. The suspect vehicle was also located and seized.

Investigators believe the accused interacted with another motorist in the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot shortly after the collision. Investigators are looking to speak with this individual, as they may have information that could assist with the investigation.

Anyone with dashcam footage of the collision or surrounding area, or anyone with information about this incident, is asked to contact MCB investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3710.

QUOTE

This is a tragic loss of life, and leaving the scene of a fatal collision is a serious criminal offence. We all have a responsibility to keep our roads safe and to remain at the scene of a collision. I commend our Major Collision Bureau for their diligent investigative work, which led to a swift arrest and recovery of the suspect vehicle.
