Building a safe ride home into your party plans should be just as important as the countless hours spent putting the special event together. Mixing alcohol or drugs with driving can be a disastrous combination at any time of the year, especially during the holidays.
Our yearly Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) spotcheck campaign is well underway. The premise is simple. Officers are stationed at random undisclosed locations across Mississauga and Brampton, stopping vehicles to ensure that drivers are not operating their vehicles while impaired.
During the RIDE program in 2018, Peel Regional Police charged 34 drivers with impaired driving. These penalties included driver licence suspensions, vehicle seizures, criminal charges and expensive legal fees. However, driving impaired can seriously hurt or kill someone, so why chance it?
Be a part of the solution to road safety by planning ahead and making good choices. Plan an alternate way home, whether by taking a taxi, bus, ride-sharing company or a designated driver.
