Online Reporting Requirements

To use our online reporting system:

  • The incident must have occurred in either Brampton or Mississauga.
  • The report must be filed by the owner of the involved property or by an authorized representative.
  • You must provide a valid email address.
  • Stolen License Plates cannot be reported online. In-person reporting is required.
  • Stolen Canadian Passports and Lost or Stolen Foreign Passports require in-person reporting.
  • The Suspect(s) must be unknown
    If you know the name or address of the suspect, or if you know the license plate of the vehicle associated to the suspect, an online report cannot be filed. Contact Police at 905-453-3311.
  • If you have video, photographic or documentary evidence in relation to the incident you wish to report, whether reporting online or in-person, please have it ready to provide to police.
  • It is a criminal offence to file a false police report.

When should I call Police instead?

  • If you have a known suspect. If you know the name or address of the suspect, or if you know the license plate of the vehicle associated to the suspect, please contact Peel Regional Police at 905-453-3311
  • If the value of theft, loss or property damage is more than $10,000.00
  • If your vehicle has been stolen
  • If the incident occurred outside of Brampton or Mississauga. Please contact the police service responsible for the area in which the incident occurred
  • If someone broke into, or attempted to break into your home, garage or business
  • If this is the theft or loss of a firearm
  • If this is related to any form of personal violence, including domestic violence.
  • If this is related to any kind of vandalism or graffiti that could be “hate motivated”
  • If this is related to a traffic complaint that is in progress

What happens after I file a report online?

  • Upon submitting your completed report online, you will see the words “Your online police report has been submitted” indicating your report is complete.
  • You will receive an email with a temporary case number until police have reviewed the report. Check your junk email folder if you do not receive the email in your inbox.
  • Once a police officer has approved the online report, you will be notified and provided a permanent case number.
  • The accuracy of the information you provide in the report greatly assists Peel Regional Police Service in investigating your incident. Please ensure the report is as complete and concise as possible.

In-Person Reporting

  • If the incident did not occur within Brampton or Mississauga, please contact the police service responsible for the location where the incident occurred.
  • When the value of the stolen, lost or damaged property exceeds $10,000.00, contact our Non-Emergency Line.
  • Damage to Motor Vehicles - If you are attempting to report damage to your motor vehicle that was directly caused by another vehicle, or is likely to have been caused by another vehicle, please attend a Collision Reporting Centre to file a Motor Vehicle Collision or a Fail to Remain report.   • Stolen License Plates cannot be reported online, and should be reported to Police as soon as possible. Please report the incident in person at your closest police station or Contact Us for additional information.
    - Lost License Plates do not require a police report. Please visit the Service Ontario website for information.
  • Stolen Passports must be reported to Police in person.
    - Lost Canadian Passports are reported directly to Citizenship and Immigration Canada's Passport Program. The report needs to be submitted by phone at 1-800-567-6868, or in person at the nearest Service Canada Passport Office.
    - Lost or stolen foreign passports must be reported to Police in person.
