Peel Police - Police Seize Firearm During Traffic Stop

Region of Peel – Officers from 22 Division have arrested and charged two individuals for numerous firearm and drug related offences in the City of Brampton.

On Thursday February 8, 2018, at approximately 10:40 p.m., 22 Division Uniform officers investigated a vehicle in the area of Richvale Drive South and Bovaird Drive East. During the investigation, police located a black .22 caliber handgun.

Rahwa LEAKEMARIAM, a 25 year-old female from Brampton, and Courtney MCKENZIE, a 28 year-old male from Brampton,were arrested and charged with several drug related offences as well as the following firearms offences:

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

Careless Storage of Firearm 

Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was Firearm

Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

LEAKEMARIAM and MCKENZIE were held for a bail hearing scheduled for Friday, February 9th, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
