Peel Police-Distracted Driving Enforcement Blitz

Posted on Saturday April 21, 2018

Region of Peel – Distracted driving is a problem that impacts the entire community. In an effort to enforce the rules of the road as it pertains to distracted driving, Peel Regional Police will be conducting a week-long blitz beginning Monday April 23, 2018 to Monday April 30, 2018.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and we are committed to reducing the number of Distracted Driving offences that occur on our roadways on a daily basis. In the past, Peel Regional Police Road Safety Services have conducted Distracted Driving initiatives designed to educate the public in order to reduce injuries and save lives on our roadways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.  This week-long blitz will focus on behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users at risk.

The objectives are:

  • Education Through enforcement.
  • Zero tolerance as it pertains to distracted driving.
  • Reducing the number of serious collisions due to distracted driving.
  • Improving road safety, driving performance and awareness by discouraging drivers from engaging in distracted driving behaviors.

This campaign will strictly focus on enforcement of distracted drivers in our Region and will be conducted by all frontline officers and Road Safety Services.

Peel Regional Police would like to remind everyone of the Road Watch program. The Road Watch program involves local citizens by encouraging them to identify dangerous and aggressive driving. When an incident of dangerous or aggressive driving is observed, the complainant fills out the Citizen Report Form.  More information on this program can be found here.
