Peel Police Service Board Approves 2026 Budget to Enhance the Safety of Communities — Today and in the Future

Posted On Friday October 24, 2025

Region of PeelThe Peel Police Service Board has approved the 2026 police budget — a 9.9 per cent increase from last year — to enhance the safety and well-being of residents across the region. The budget will sustain progress, manage growth, and ensure policing remains adequate, effective, and responsive to community needs.

The investment supports the hiring of 175 officers in the coming year, strengthening the frontline, increasing community presence, improving response times, and enhancing investigative capabilities. This aligns with the service’s multi-year plan, launched in 2024, to hire 600 officers over three years to meet the region’s evolving needs.

The capital budget will continue to fund infrastructure and technology initiatives that support frontline operations and assist members across the service. These investments are strategic and phased over a 10-year plan to ensure the service can meet both current and future demands of the region.

Peel Regional Police has developed a tailored approach to policing one of Canada’s fastest growing and most diverse regions, which includes Canada’s largest transport hub, the country’s busiest international airport, and five major highways.

As Peel continues to grow, the safety needs and demands of its communities are evolving. Investment in policing is essential to support public safety and quality of life in the region today and into the future.
