Search Warrant Leads to Seizure of Firearm
Region of Peel – Officers from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have charged a 17-year-old young person with firearm-related offences.
On Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 1:50 p.m., uniform officers attended a residence in the area of Darcel Avenue and Morning Star Drive in Mississauga for a weapons call. The victim, a 39-year-old man from Mississauga, was involved in a verbal argument with a young person who allegedly brandished a firearm.
At 2:04 p.m., 12 Division uniform officers located and arrested the young person. A short time later, investigators from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, with the assistance of the Tactical Unit and 12 Division uniform officers, executed a search warrant at a Mississauga residence, which resulted in officers locating a Glock 9mm handgun.
The young person has been charged with the following offences:
- Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Device Knowing not the Holder of a License (X2)
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm Without License
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number Removed/Altered/Defaced
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identities of the Young Persons charged in this investigation are protected.
The young person was out on a release order for similar firearm-related offences at the time of the incident.
