Cooking for a Cause

Recently, the United Achievers Club hosted the 22nd annual Celebrity Chef: Men Who Cook event at Century Gardens Recreation Centre in Brampton. The event brought together over 20 chefs from across Ontario whose unique recipes helped to raise funds for William Osler Paediatric Sickle Cell Support program as well as the United Achievers Scholarship Program. Guests of the event pay to sample the various items cooked by the chefs and the net proceeds are shared amongst the charitable recipients.

This year, Staff Sergeant Greg Amoroso from our Road Safety Services unit participated with his famous recipe for jerk chicken wings. Seasoned with the right amount of homemade spices and heat, the wings were cooked to perfection and garnered high praise from not only the judges but from attendees and fellow chefs. The wings were so good, that his first time entry won third place and beat out professional chefs who have been in the industry for years.

“I’ve been cooking these wings for quite a few years and when the opportunity came up to help raise funds for two worthwhile organizations, I couldn’t say no.” said Greg. “Winning third place and coming ahead of all of these other great contestants is quite a surprise but I’m glad that we all came together to show our support.” he went on to say.

His medal now hangs proudly in his office and his winning wings have become the talk of the division, but Greg takes it all in stride and is happy to share the story of his recipe and how it helped give back to the community that he serves as a police officer in the Region of Peel.
