Charges Laid in Two Shootings

Region of Peel - Officers from the 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged three Brampton residents in two separate shootings in the City of Brampton.

 

On July 31, 2022, 21 Division uniform officers attended the area of Mayfield Road and Dixie Road in the City of Brampton for a report of shots fired into a residence. There were no physical injuries sustained as a result of this shooting. Investigators identified and charged the following two persons in November 2022:

 

Emely Nagulendran, a 23-year-old woman from Brampton and a 15-year-old male youth, have each been charged with Discharge Firearm with Intent.

 

On Thursday, August 11, 2022, at approximately 1:20 a.m., 21 Division uniform officers responded to a shooting in a residential area near Queen Street East and Dixie Road in the City of Brampton and located two men who had been shot. The victims were transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators identified and charged the following two persons in August 2022:

Jaheim Powell, a 21-year-old man from Brampton, was charged with the following alleged offences:

    • Attempted murder x 5
    • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
    • Possession for the purpose of trafficking narcotics

Emely Nagulendran, a 23-year-old woman from Brampton, was charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Attempted murder x 5

Jaheim Powell and Emely Nagulendran were held for separate bail hearings and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Brampton.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person, and, therefore, the identities of the Young Persons charged in this investigation are protected.
