Charges Laid in Robbery Series and Carjacking

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have charged an 18-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old youth involved in nine retail robberies, possession of multiple stolen vehicles, and a violent carjacking.

Between August 2021 and December 2021, nine retail robberies occurred throughout the Region of Peel, including pharmacies and retail locations. During most of the robberies, the suspects utilized stolen vehicles and demanded cash, prescription pills, cologne, perfume, and cigarettes. In numerous robberies, knives were used to intimidate the victims. 

The victims sustained no physical injuries.

On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, a 58-year-old male victim attended the area of Kings Cross Road and Clark Boulevard in Brampton to provide transportation services to a potential customer. Upon arrival, three suspects – two male and one female - entered the vehicle and were driven to the area of Fleetwood Crescent in Brampton. Upon arrival, one suspect pointed a firearm at the victim's neck and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The victim provided the keys, and the suspects fled in the vehicle.

The victim sustained no physical injuries.

After a thorough and detailed criminal investigation spanning several months, police identified and arrested two suspects on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, and another additional suspect on Thursday, January 6, 2022, for their involvement in these incidents. In addition, on Thursday, January 6, 2022, a search warrant was conducted at a Brampton residence where several offence-related property items were seized.

Seven stolen vehicles tied to this group have been recovered to date and one imitation firearm.

On Thursday, January 6, 2022, investigators charged 18-year-old Camryn Douglas from Brampton with the following charges:

  • Robbery
  • Use Imitation Firearm
  • Wear Disguise with Intent
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking (X2)
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (X3)
  • Operation of a Vehicle while Prohibited (X3)
  • Breach of Probation (X5) 

On Thursday, January 6, 2022, investigators also charged 18-year-old Meghan Vargo, from Brampton, with the following charges:

  • Robbery
  • Use Imitation Firearm
  • Wear Disguise with Intent
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking (X3)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

On Thursday, January 6, 2022, investigators arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth from Brampton with the following charges: 

  • Robbery (X10)
  • Use Imitation Firearm
  • Wear Disguise with Intent (X10)
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (X2)
  • Breach of Release Order (X2)

The charged parties were held pending a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
