Peel Regional Police Launches 2024 Seasonal R.I.D.E. Campaign
Region of Peel – Peel Regional Police has officially launched its Seasonal Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) Campaign in partnership with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD). This is an annual campaign as part of ongoing and collaborative efforts to reduce impaired driving between November 16 to December 31, 2024.
To ensure the community is driving safely and responsibly, additional officers from Road Safety Services and other divisions have been deployed to increase roadside checks throughout the holiday season. Last year, Peel Regional Police’s Seasonal R.I.D.E. Campaign laid 155 impaired-related charges and investigated over 12,000 vehicles. Additionally, 116 drivers received three-day suspensions.
While the Seasonal R.I.D.E. Campaign marks an increase in strategical enforcement, it’s important to note that R.I.D.E is a year-round commitment by Peel Regional Police to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving. The Seasonal R.I.D.E. Campaign is more than enforcement— it is about awareness, and prevention, and we are calling on our community to play a role. Road safety is a shared responsibility. Do not drive if you have consumed alcohol or consumed any type of drugs. Ensure that you have a plan to get home by having a designated driver, an alternate place to stay, or using public transportation.
“Impaired driving puts everyone at risk and it can devastate families. Peel Regional Police wants everyone in our community to have a safe and happy Holiday season with friends and family. There is no excuse for driving impaired. Please plan ahead and protect yourself, your loved ones and our community,” said Deputy Chief Mark Dapat.
“Impaired driving is not an “accident” – it is a choice that someone makes, and it devastates families. Please this holiday season, make the right choice and do not drive impaired. Plan ahead for a safe way home. Together, we can all have a safe and happy holiday season,” said Dawn Regan, Chief Operating Officer, MADD Canada. For more information please visit madd.ca.
