Driving is a Privilege Not a Right

Region of Peel – A traffic stop by officers has led to numerous driving offence charges laid on a 34-year-old Brampton man.

On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, officers from Road Safety Services Safer Roads Team conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Hubbell Road and Rivemont Road in the City of Brampton. The investigation revealed the driver to be a prohibited and suspended driver with an extensive criminal driving history.

Simanjit Sahota is charged with the following offences: 

  • Operation While Prohibited (X4)
  • Drive Under Suspension

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Thursday, November 18, 2021, to answer to the charges.

In the last six months, officers from the Road Safety Services Safer Road Team have laid over 70 charges in relation to driving offences, including impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, prohibited driving, disqualified driving, and driving while suspended.

“Since its inception, the Safer Roads Team has shown its value as part of the Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) strategy which focuses on risk mitigation through proactive enforcement. The team continues to focus on street racing, prolific offenders and re-offenders who continue to pose a risk to our community.” – Acting Inspector Al Villers Road Safety Services.
