Citizen's Tip Leads to Arrests in Pharmacy Robberies and Seized Firearms

Region of Peel – A keen-eyed Brampton citizen-led Peel Regional Police to arrest and charge one man and two male youths with over 50 firearm and robbery-related charges in connection with several pharmacy robberies in the Region of Peel. 

On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a concerned Brampton citizen contacted police to report several suspicious males seen handling a firearm near Wanless Drive and Brisdale Drive in the City of Brampton.

Uniform officers from 22 Division and members of the Tactical and K9 units attended the area, took three males into custody, and seized two loaded firearms.

As a result of a detailed investigation by Central Robbery Bureau investigators, it is alleged that various members of this group were involved in eight separate pharmacy robberies that took place throughout the Region of Peel between September 2, 2022, and September 19, 2022. 

It is further alleged that on September 19, 2022, some members of this group were involved in a pharmacy robbery in the City of Vaughan. Peel Central Robbery Bureau and the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit recovered two stolen vehicles believed to have been used in these robberies. Additional offence-related property, including a large number of prescription narcotics, was also recovered.

“This was an excellent demonstration of the value of our community in responding to violent crime. Combined with coordinated police response, this has ended a violent crime spree while removing another two illegal firearms from our streets,” said Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich.

Lenroy Huggins, an 18-year-old man from Toronto, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery x 8
  • Possession of property obtained by crime x 9
  • Attempt to commit an indictable offence x 1  
  • Wear disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence x 3
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 2
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition x 2
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm x 2
  • Tamper with Serial number of a Firearm x 1

A 16-year-old-male youth from Toronto was charged with the following offences: 

• Robbery x 4

• Possession of property obtained by crime x 5

• Attempt to commit an indictable offence x 1  

• Wear disguise with intent to commit an indicatable offence x 4

• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 2

• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition x 2

• Careless Storage of a Firearm x 2

• Tamper with Serial number of a Firearm x 1

 

A 17-year-old male youth from Brampton was charged with the following offences:

 • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 2

• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition x 2

• Careless Storage of a Firearm x 2

• Tamper with Serial number of a Firearm x 1

 All three suspects were held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 22, 2022.

 A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation are protected.

These investigations are ongoing and there are suspects that remain outstanding.
