Proactive Enforcement Results in Arrests and Multiple Guns Seized

Region of Peel – Since January 2024, officers from the Specialized Enforcement Bureau’s Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing team (STEP) have seized 24 illegal firearms, $300,000 in illegal drugs, arrested 28 people and laid 480 charges. This includes the seizing and removal of 5 illegal firearms in July with an additional 4 firearms seized in an August 17, 2024, investigation.

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., STEP officers investigated a vehicle near Queen Street East and Rutherford Road South in Brampton for cannabis-related offences. As a result, officers located an illegal handgun with multiple rounds of ammunition.  

Tyrell Doyle, a 33-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm, etc. Contrary to Order
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Have care and control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Later on July, 6, 2024 at approximately 2:45 a.m., STEP officers investigated the passenger of a vehicle in the area of Airway Drive and Northwest Drive in Mississauga for cannabis-related offences. During the investigation, officers located four illegal handguns and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Following a foot-pursuit, 40-year-old Reeke Jomaine Ellis, of no fixed address was arrested and charged the following offences:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (X4)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (X4)
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (X4)
  • Possession of Firearm, etc. Contrary to Order (X4)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition (X4)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., STEP officers investigated four vehicles on Northwest Drive in the City of Mississauga for cannabis-related offences. As a result of the traffic stops, a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson M&P handgun, a loaded Ruger handgun, a loaded Glock 43X handgun and a loaded Springfield compact 40 caliber handgun were seized.

Following a foot-pursuit, Christopher Hayden, a 45-year-old from Toronto is charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Tampering with serial number of Firearm

Following a foot-pursuit, Everal Hayden, a 46-year-old from Toronto is charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Tampering with serial number of Firearm

Fabian Stewart, a 33-year-old from North York is charged with:

  • Have Care or Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Disobey Court Order
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

Anthony Ewan, a 31-year-old from Toronto is charged with:

  • Have Care or Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Drive While Under Suspension
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm (X2)
  • Breach of Conditional Sentence

Following a foot-pursuit, Traivon Grant, a 32-year-old from Mississauga is charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Tampering with serial number of Firearm
  • Failure to Comply with Order

Traivon was wearing an ankle monitor and in the presence of his Surety at the time of the offence.

They were all held for a bail hearings and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
