Arrests Made in Homicide Investigation

Region of Peel – Detectives from the Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau have arrested two individuals and put out a Canada-wide warrant for a third person following the death of a 37-year-old man in Mississauga.

On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the victims, Alastair Robinson, a 37-year-old man from Toronto, and an 18-year-old man from Whitby, were present in a parking lot of an event space in the area of Queensway East and Dixie Road in Mississauga when they were shot at from a vehicle. Alastair Robinson was struck by a bullet and died at the scene. The second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, Detectives identified the individuals involved, and on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, officers from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau arrested and charged the following individuals.

Shawn Downey-Smith, a 30-year-old man from Brampton, is charged with the following:

  • First Degree Murder
  • Attempted Murder
  • Nine Firearm Possession charges including three counts of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Court Ordered Prohibition.     

Britney Graca, a 24-year-old woman from Guelph, is charged with the following offences:

  • Accessory After Fact to Murder
  • Six Firearms Possession charges.      

They were both held for bail hearings and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for 27-year-old, Akeem Richards for First Degree Murder and Attempted Murder. He is described as a Black male, approximately 6’2”, 220lbs with black braided hair. If seen, do not approach, call 9-1-1. This individual should be considered armed and dangerous.
