Safer Roads Team Charges Man for Dangerous Operation and other Driving Offences
Region of Peel – Investigators from the Road Safety Services Safer Roads Team have laid charges against a man for fleeing from police during a traffic stop.
On Monday, May 22, 2023, officers from the Safer Roads Team patrolled a known street racing location in the area of Kenview Boulevard and Castleview Road in the city of Brampton. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on one of the participants operating a white Audi Q5 but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, making good on their escape.
Utilizing investigative techniques, the Safer Roads Team identified the Audi driver as 24-year-old Nicholas Costa Azevedo from Bradford.
On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the Safer Roads Team arrested and charged Nicholas with the following offences:
- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Race Motor Vehicle
- Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway No Insurance
Officers seized the vehicle and released the suspect with conditions. He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 10, 2023, regarding the federal and provincial laid charges.
