Arrest Made in Violent Carjacking
Region of Peel – Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau, in collaboration with the York Regional Police (YRP) Hold Up Unit, York Air Support, and Peel Tactical Unit, have arrested a man after a violent carjacking in the City of Mississauga.
On Friday, July 14, 2023, the accused was operating a stolen 2022 white Ford F550 cargo van as he fled dangerously from YRP officers. At approximately 11:30 a.m., upon entering the Region of Peel, in the area of Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive in Mississauga, the accused deliberately rear-ended the victim's vehicle. The victim exited his vehicle, at which point the accused entered the driver's seat of the victim's vehicle, and a struggle ensued within the vehicle; the accused then fled the area at a high rate of speed with the victim inside. While running red lights, the accused made good his escape and, a short time later, forced the victim out of the vehicle while in motion. The victim received minor injuries as a result.
In co-operation with the YRP’s Air Support Unit, PRP located the victim's vehicle near Lakeshore Blvd W and 36th Street in the City of Toronto. A plan was formulated, and due to efficient communication between the partnering agencies, the Peel Tactical and Rescue Unit successfully conducted a high-risk vehicle stop, and the accused was arrested.
At the time of this offence the accused was on multiple forms of judicial release for similar outstanding criminal offenses, which include: Flight from Police x2, dangerous operation x2, possession of property obtained by crime x4, Impaired operation and fail to comply with court orders x7.
Sagar Puri, a 26-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with the following;
- Robbery
- Flight From Police
- Dangerous Operation
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
- Fail to Comply with Undertaking
- Breach of Probation Order
- Breach of Probation Order
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Application to Revoke Bail

We would like to remind the public to remain vigilant at all times, and take certain precautionary measures to protect against the potential of a carjacking. Although rare, PRP has seen a slight increase in theft of vehicles with violence. In the incident of a robbery, please remember your safety is more important than your property.
