Kidnapping and Firearm Charges Laid

Region of Peel – Investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have charged two men from Brantford with kidnapping and weapon offences.

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the victim was driving his vehicle in the area of Dixie Road and Dundas Street in Mississauga when he was intentionally rear-ended by the suspects vehicle. 

When the victim attempted to exchange information with the other parties involved, one of the suspects brandished a firearm. The suspects then forced the victim into their vehicle. The victim was then transported to a warehouse in the area of Eglington Avenue and Ridgeway Drive Mississauga, where the victim was assaulted.

The victim was able to make his way to 11 Division Peel Police to report the incident. The victim sought medical attention at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau initiated an extensive investigation into the details surrounding the kidnapping. 

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, during the arrest, investigators located a 12 gauge shotgun at a residence in the City of Brantford. As a result, a second male was identified, arrested, and charged. 

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, Raza-Syed Jafri, a 24-year-old man from the City of Brantford, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Kidnapping with Firearm to Hold for Ransom 
  • Conspiracy to Commit Indicatable Offence

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, Aziz Syed, a 32-year-old man from the City of Brantford, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Careless Storage of Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

Both men were held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

This incident is believed to be isolated and there is no risk to public safety.
