Police Make Arrest in Retail Robbery

Region of Peel – Members of the Central Robbery Bureau have arrested and charged a 27-year-old Brampton man for a retail robbery that took place earlier this month.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 17, 2021, a retail location in the area of Queen Street and Centre Street in Brampton was targeted by a masked suspect who made demands for money and lottery tickets while threatening the cashier with a hammer. The suspect made off with an amount of currency and lottery tickets. He made good his escape in a stolen vehicle that was recovered later in the day. There were no physical injuries to the cashier.

After a thorough criminal investigation, a suspect was identified. In collaboration with members of the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and 22 Division Uniform Patrol, Leandro Amaral, was located and arrested on Sunday, July 25, 2021, in the area of Steeles Avenue and Hurontario Street in Brampton.

Leandro Amaral is charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery
  • Wear Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of Stolen Property

He was held pending a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on July 26, 2021.
