Investigation Leads to Firearm Seizure and Charges
Region of Peel –Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing Unit (STEP) have charged a Mississauga man with several alleged firearm-related charges while on a lifetime weapons prohibition order.
On February 6, 2023, SEB STEP officers, with the assistance of the PRP Tactical Unit, executed two search warrants on a residence and vehicle in the City of Mississauga.
Troy Matthews, a 36-year-old man from Mississauga, was held pending a bail hearing and was charged with the following alleged offences:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless Storage
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of prohibited device or ammunition (2 counts)
- Possession of Firearm (Contrary to Order)
Police seized a Kodiak Defence WK180C rifle, ammunition and prohibited devices containing ammunition. At the time of his arrest, Troy Mathews was bound by a lifetime weapons prohibition order as a result of a violent home invasion and aggravated assault.
