Assistance Sought in Locating Shooting Suspect

Region of Peel – Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are appealing to the public for information on the whereabouts of a shooting suspect.  

On Thursday January 25, 2024 police responded to reports of a shooting at a hotel on Nexus Avenue in Brampton. Officers arrived on scene and located a woman in her 20’s who had been shot. Fortunately her wound was not life threatening. The suspect was not known to the victim and fled the scene.

Following a lengthy investigation, the shooter was identified as 25-year-old Niyo Tyrese Hill of Welland Ontario. He remains outstanding.  

A warrant for his arrest has been issued for the following charges:

  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Robbery
  • Discharge Firearm With Intent
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Breach of Probation Order
  • Possession of Firearm, etc. Contrary to Order (x2)

On December 17, 2024 a Criminal Code search warrant was executed at a residence in Welland where a loaded illegal Glock 20 handgun was seized. Also seized was a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and large amounts of currency.

As a result of the search warrant, 27-year-old Nikkita Clarke-Banks of Welland was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession for the Purpose - Schedule I Methamphetamines (Trafficking)

If members of the public see Niyo Tyrese Hill, they are asked to dial 9-1-1 and not approach

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Niyo to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121 extension 2133.
