Charges Laid in Brampton Homicide

Region of Peel – Homicide and Missing Persons Investigation Bureau have arrested and charged a 33-year-old man from the City of Brampton.  

On Friday, December 4, 2020, at approximately 4:00 a.m., police received a call for a fire at a residence on Martindale Crescent in the City of Brampton. Police attended with Brampton Fire and Peel Paramedics and observed the residence to be fully engulfed. Five occupants from the residence were located outside. A 34-year-old woman was taken to local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 71-year-old man as well as a 11, 9, and 4-year-old child who did not suffer any physical injuries. Located in the residence was a deceased woman believed to be 61 years of age.

Investigation has lead to the arrest of Helder Vertentes-Arruda, a 33-year-old man from Brampton. All the occupants of the residence are known to the accused.

Helder Vertentes-Arruda is charged with one count of First Degree Murder and 5 counts of Attempt Murder. He appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Friday, December 4, 2020.
