Quick Police Response Results in Carjacking Arrests

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have charged an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth involved in two attempted violent carjackings.

On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 7:40 a.m., two suspects approached the victim in their driveway in the area of Dearbourne Boulevard and Bramalea Road in Brampton. The suspects made demands for the victim’s vehicle. The victim screamed and ran inside for assistance. The two suspects fled the area on foot, and the vehicle was not stolen. The victim sustained no physical injuries.

Minutes later at 7:50 a.m., the suspects approached another victim in the same neighbourhood where they again demanded the victim’s vehicle, this time while brandishing a firearm. The suspects pulled the victim out of his vehicle, and the victim managed to get away from the suspects. The victim ran inside for help and contacted police. The vehicle was not stolen, and the victim sustained no physical injuries.

Police responded to the incident immediately, locating and arresting the two suspects in a wooded area, a short distance from the second attempted carjacking. With the assistance of 21 Division Uniform officers and the K-9 Unit, a loaded firearm was recovered on scene.

Jashiah Simpson, an 18-year-old man of no fixed address and a 17-year-old youth from Toronto, are charged with the following offences:

 Robbery with Firearm

  • Wear Disguise with Intent
  • Point Firearm
  • Use Firearm while in Commission of Offence
  • Unauthorized Possession Firearm
  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession
  • Carry and Concealed Weapon
  • Robbery with Firearm
  • Wear Disguise with Intent

Both suspects were held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage or external video surveillance footage in the area of Dearbourne Boulevard and Bramalea Road between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., on January 19, 2022.
