Peel Regional Police is excited to present the 2018 Annual Report .  Our Vision, ‘A Safer Community Together’, remains our commitment to the 1.4 million people we serve.  This report highlights the excellent work our members do each day through community engagement and strong partnerships.

The key areas of focus for the 2017-2019 Strategic Plan are;

  • Community Safety Together,
  • Professional Diverse and Supportive Workplace
  • Quality Service and Fiscal Responsibility

“Ensuring the Region of Peel remains one of the safest communities in Canada is the result of the dedication and professionalism of our employees. The partnership and trust our community has with our employees is central to our Vision of A Safer Community Together.” says Chief Chris McCord.

We remain focused on our priorities and together with community support; Peel Regional Police has accomplished a great deal to meet the strategic objectives in 2018.

  • In support of our commitment to community safety, we supplemented additional officers to frontline during peak times to meet higher service demands.
  • The Peel Regional Police communications centre received 710,000 calls for service in 2018; 430,000 of them were to our 9-1-1 emergency service. From those calls, our officers investigated over 43,000 criminal code offences. 37,373 of them were violent and property crimes.  These were solved at a rate above the Provincial and National averages.
  • Throughout the year, we seized a total of 459 firearms.
  • With the use of a fleet of 826 vehicles of our own, we recognize that road safety continues to be a priority for us all. The focus on public education and strategic enforcement resulted in a decrease in impaired driving offences and the laying of 84,000 Highway Traffic Act charges for 2018.
  • In response to the new Cannabis Legislation, our officers were trained and the public was educated.
  • With the speed at which technology is evolving, we continue to review and update our service delivery platforms by implementing new technology.
  • Community outreach continues to improve through our new website and social media channels. We have increased our followership to 1.2 million users and revitalized our presence on social media platforms.  Our online presence allows us to highlight the great work that our 2,977 employees and 99 volunteers do each day through innovative recruiting, crime prevention projects and other services we deliver.

“As a member of the Region of Peel Council for over three decades, I recognize the complexity and challenges of policing one of the fastest growing regions in Canada. Building strong, safe and secure communities requires collaboration from many partners, our community and from across all levels of government” said Nando Iannicca, Peel Regional Police Services Board Chair.

Policing is always evolving; the one constant is the proven dedication and professionalism shared by the members and the many volunteers of Peel Regional Police who work hard to keep our community safe. I would like to thank the Police Service Board, Regional Council and our many policing partners for their unwavering support toward ‘A Safer Community Together’.
