Arrest Made in Brampton House Explosion

Region of Peel – On Tuesday August 13, 2019 at approximately 1:30 pm, Brampton Fire Department and Peel Regional Police attended a semi-detached residence located on Herdwick Street in the City of Brampton for a house fire/explosion.  

A 1-year-old child received second-degree burns and three adult occupants (two males and one female) had minor burns and smoke inhalation, all were taken to hospital, and remained overnight as a precaution.

On August 14, 2019, members of 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau and The Ontario Fire Marshal executed a search warrant at the address on Herdwick Street. The explosion was confirmed to be caused by an alcohol producing still, located in the basement of the residence. 

On August 14, 2019, a 57-year-old man from Brampton was charged with Arson by Negligence. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and will appear in at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, at a later date.   

Police want residents to report any similar activity as this practice can have severe consequences.
