Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Seizure

Region of Peel - Officers from the 22 Division Community Intervention and Response Team unit (CIRT) located a loaded firearm and laid numerous firearm-related charges after conducting a traffic stop in Brampton.

On February 20, 2024, Officers from the 22 Division CIRT Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mcmurchy Avenue South and Queen Street West in the City of Brampton. An investigation into the vehicle and occupants resulted in police locating a loaded Glock 22 handgun with an extended magazine. The driver and passenger were arrested and charged with several firearms offences.

Jamari Bailey, a 20-year-old man from Brampton who is currently on a release order for firearm-related charges, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Obstruct Police
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm 
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm with Altered Serial Number
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order
  • Breach of Probation
  • Have Care or Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Offences under the Highway Traffic Act

Emily Mauro, a 22-year-old woman from Brampton, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Obstruct Police
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm 
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm with Altered Serial Number
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device
  • Have Care or Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Offences under the Highway Traffic Act

Both appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Wednesday, February 21 2024, for a bail hearing.
