Man Charged in Murder Investigation

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau have arrested and charged a man with the murder of a 29-year-old woman in Brampton.

On Friday, June 17, 2022, at 5:57 a.m., Peel Regional Police received a 9-1-1 call for a disturbance at a residence in the area of Aloma Crescent and Avondale Boulevard in the City of Brampton. Officers arrived on the scene and located a deceased woman inside the home with obvious signs of trauma.

The suspect, the ex-partner of the victim, 29-year-old Linval Alfonso Ritchie, fled the scene before police arrived and actively evaded police. Linval Ritchie has an extensive criminal history, including violence and a five-year weapons prohibition.

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, Linval Alfonso Ritchie of Brampton was located with assistance from the Hamilton Police Service. Peel Regional Police have since charged him with First Degree Murder. He was held for a bail hearing and appeared the same day before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton in answer to the charge.

“I am grateful for the work of our investigators and the collaboration with policing partners that led to the quick arrest of Linval Ritchie. It was critical to locate and arrest this individual, who was a clear threat to public safety. We understand the profound impact this tragedy has had on many people and the community. We will continue to work with our partners to end intimate partner violence.” Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah

Chief Duraiappah added, “This is a tragic outcome for a young woman and an incredibly difficult trauma certainly for the family and the officers who witnessed the results of this violent act. I extend my sincerest condolences to the loved ones who have been left behind.”
