Launch of Canada Road Safety Week

Posted On Monday May 16, 2022

Region of Peel Starting May 17, 2022, officers across Peel Region will have an enhanced focus on road safety, as we launch Canada Road Safety Week in partnership with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and police services across Canada.

Supported by officers from divisions in Mississauga and Brampton, members of our Road Safety Services team will be undertaking a multi-pronged approach towards safer roadways. Offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), impaired driving, commercial motor vehicle safety and Projects ERASE and Noise Maker will all be a part of this enhanced campaign, with the end goal of making the Region of Peel a safer place for motorists and pedestrians.

“Road safety is one of our primary areas of focus under the Community Safety and Well-Being paradigm,” said Marc Andrews, Deputy Chief of Peel Regional Police. “Our participation in Canada Road Safety Week will lend itself, and bring us closer to accomplishing the goals set out in the Regional Vision Zero plan”.

The 2022 campaign should act as a reminder to drivers, that the decisions they make not only affect themselves, but also passengers, other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians with whom they all share the road. Quite often, drivers make choices on the level of risk they are personally willing to take, without any regard for the risk posed to others. With that in mind, Peel Regional Police has adopted the CACP campaign theme of ‘Safer You. Safer Me’, as part of the broader Canada Road Safety Strategy 2025.
