Investigation Leads to Firearm and Drug Charges
Region of Peel - Officers from the Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) team recover a loaded firearm and a quantity of drugs after a proactive investigation.
On Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 12:40 a.m., STEP officers investigated a motor vehicle in the parking lot of a complex located near Matheson Boulevard East and Satellite Drive in the City of Mississauga.
The lone occupant of the vehicle attempted to conceal a satchel while speaking to investigators. As a result of the investigation, Kevin Mayne, a 48-year-old man from Toronto was charged with the following:
- Unauthorized possession of firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
- Tampering with serial number of firearm
- Possession of firearm contrary to order
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
Mayne’s firearm prohibition relates to previous convictions for assault and forcible confinement. He was transported to 12 Division and held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
