Charges Laid in Human Trafficking Investigation
Region of Peel– Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau (SEB)-Vice Unit have arrested and charged 43-year-old Jagrutiben Bhatt, from Brampton, in relation to sex trafficking offences.
On September 14, 2023, officers commenced an investigation against Jagrutiben concerning her controlling two female victims in the sex trade within the Region of Peel.
Jagrutiben has been charged with the following criminal offences:
- Human Trafficking
- Exercise Control (X2)
- Receiving Benefit Resulting from Trafficking in Persons
- Advertise Sexual Services (X2)
- Procuring (X2)
- Material Benefit from Sexual Services (X2)
Jagrutiben was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Investigators from the SEB Vice Unit believe there may be more victims of human trafficking and sex trafficking related offences.
