Arrest Made in Armed Home Invasion Robbery In Brampton

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau have charged two adults and one young person in connection to a home invasion robbery in Brampton.

It is alleged that in the early morning hours of November 28, 2023, four suspects attended a residence near McLaughlin Road and Queen Street in Brampton. The suspects forced entry into the residence while the victims were inside. Wearing disguises to conceal their identities, the suspects made demands for property and money. Fortunately, none of the victims involved in this incident suffered any physical injuries.

Following a lengthy investigation, three suspects have been identified and arrested. Search warrants were also executed at three residences where property related to the robbery was located.

Nanayaw Kwarten, a 21-year-old man from Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order (X 6)
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

At the time of his arrest, Kwarten was on a judicial release and bound by a probation order with strict conditions.

Mark Obohat, a 19-year-old man from Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

The third individual, a 14-year-old young person from Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

 A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person, and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.

All suspects appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for bail hearings on February 23, 2024.  

This investigation remains ongoing, and police anticipate more charges could be laid.
