Arrest Made in Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

Region of Peel– Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau have arrested and charged a man from Woodstock in relation to a fatal collision, which took place in the City of Brampton.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Peel Regional Police were contacted in relation to a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of Steeles Avenue & Finch Avenue, in the City of Brampton.

As a result of this collision, a man from Mississauga was pronounced deceased shortly after the collision. Another woman from Mississauga and another man from Woodstock suffered serious injuries.

Further investigation determined that the accused party was allegedly in attendance and leaving a nearby street-racing event prior to the time of the collision.

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, MCB investigators arrested Mitchel Hunter, a 19-year-old man from Woodstock, Ontario, and charged him with the following Criminal Code offences:  

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm X 2

Hunter was released with conditions and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

“Dangerous driving has tragic consequences for our community.  Our Major Collision Bureau is committed to a thorough investigation of any traffic fatality.  Those who put our community in harms way will be arrested and charged.  Accountability and meaningful repercussions are vital to addressing and deterring dangerous drivers”, said Deputy Chief Marc Andrews.
