Police Agencies Collaborate to Combat Street Racing

Posted On Thursday May 25, 2023

Region of Peel – Every year road safety is identified as a priority to residents of our region.  Today, Peel Regional Police in collaboration with Barrie Police, Durham Regional Police, Halton Regional Police Service, Hamilton Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service and York Regional Police, along with support from municipal and provincial partners met to launch the 2023 Project ERASE.

The goal of the E.R.A.S.E Program (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere) is to change poor driver behaviour through education and strategic enforcement. Street racing is an illegal and dangerous activity that jeopardizes the lives of innocent people. This project will target street racing in the various regions with combined resources through multiple police services. To ensure utmost safety on our roads, Peel Regional Police and our other partners, will have zero tolerance for dangerous driving behaviours and street racing activities.

Drivers are reminded that they will be subject to charges and penalties for offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and breaking municipal by-laws; and could face seizure of their vehicles and a roadside suspension of their driver’s licence.

Road safety is a crucial policing function, and one which all members of Peel Regional Police are committed to. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, officers continue to enforce the speed limit, address aggressive and impaired driving, in addition to a variety of other road safety measures.

Anyone with information concerning aggressive driving or street racing activities in the Region of Peel is urged to contact 905-453-3311. Driving complaints can also be filed through the Road Watch portal on our website, by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or peelcrimestoppers.ca.
