Arrest made in “Smash and Grab” Jewelry Store Robberies

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau have charged a man following two "smash and grab" style jewelry store robberies in the region. 

On Friday, December 8, 2023, at approximately 8:10 p.m., it was alleged that the accused and two other suspects attended a jewelry Store at the Bramalea City Centre shopping center in Brampton. Armed with hammers and their faces covered, the suspects began to smash display cases and steal the jewelry from within before making good on their escape. Fortunately, no physical injuries were sustained by the employees.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., it is alleged that the accused and three other suspects attended a jewelry Store at the Square One Mall in Mississauga. Again, armed with hammers and their faces covered, the suspects began to smash display cases and steal the jewelry from within before making good on their escape. Fortunately, there were no physical injuries sustained by the employees.

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, members of the Central Robbery Bureau arrested and charged 21-year-old Josiah Madurie of Toronto. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing for the following Criminal Offences:

  • Robbery (X2)
  • Wear Disguise (X2)
  • Breach of Recognizance (X2)
  • Possession of Stolen Property
