Arrest Made in Fatal Fail To Remain Collision

Region of Peel– Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau have arrested and charged a Brampton man in relation to a fatal fail-to-remain collision in Mississauga.

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a 19-year-old woman was crossing the roadway at the intersection of Tomken Road & Britannia Road in Mississauga. While crossing, she was allegedly struck by a light coloured, possibly grey older model SUV.

It is alleged that the driver of this vehicle left the scene without stopping or rendering any assistance to the victim. The victim later succumbed to her injuries.

Following a lengthy investigation, On Monday, November 28, 2022, investigators arrested and charged, Claude Martin, a 70-year-old man from Brampton with Failure to Stop After Accident Resulting in Death. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on January 9, 2023.

With the recent uptick in fatal pedestrian accidents, Peel Regional Police would like to remind all road users to be alert and pay full attention while using our roadways.  Motorists are asked to remain vigilant at intersections with pedestrian crossings. Pedestrians are asked to avoid crossing mid-block; and to cross at intersections and obey all traffic controls.
